Display Resolution

Display resolution is a parameter that states how many pixels make up the resulting image. Unlike cameras where the resolution is calculated in megapixels, displays state the number of pixels horizontally and vertically.

In general, higher resolution means a finer image, but this only applies when the screen size remains the same.

  • For monitors, Full HD resolution with 1920 × 1080 pixels is most common, but monitors with 2K resolution (2560 × 1440 pixels) or even 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels) appear often as well.
  • Mobile phones and tablets typically use Full HD, but cheaper phones often use HD resolution (1280 × 768 pixels) and 4K as well.
  • Laptops usually feature HD resolution, and higher-end models use Full HD.
