QNAP TS-855eU-8G

QNAP TS-855eU-8G
The QNAP TS-855e serves as a network storage solution in a 2U rackmount design with a reduced depth for installation in cabinets. This rackmount NAS provides space for eight hard drives and two fast M.2 NVMe drives. The device is powered by an eight-core Intel Atom C5125 processor and the QuTS hero operating system, which delivers advanced data protection features and high file system integrity. This storage is ideal for business environments for backup, virtualisation, and file sharing.
Key features of the QNAP TS-855eU-8G NAS
- Eight-core Intel Atom C5125 processor running at 2.8GHz
- 8GB of basic DDR4 memory, expandable to 64GB
- Two M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 3 slots for creating an SSD cache
- Two 2.5GbE LAN ports for fast network transfers
- Two free PCIe Gen 3 slots ready for installing add-on cards
- The device supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 configurations
- Dimensions 88.6 × 432 × 297.4mm
Design
The device has a short depth of just 297.4mm, which simplifies installation in smaller wall-mounted cabinets and two-post racks. The space saved at the rear of the rack can be used for cable management or ventilation. This design makes it easy to deploy in smaller offices, surveillance centres, or multimedia rooms.
Powerful 8-core Intel processor
At the heart of the system is an eight-core Intel Atom C5125 processor running at 2.8GHz, complemented by 8GB of DDR4 RAM. The memory can be expanded up to 64GB with ECC support for error detection. Intel QuickAssist Technology hardware acceleration speeds up data compression and encryption without overloading the processor cores.
Network interface
The device has two integrated 2.5GbE network ports, which are backward compatible with standard gigabit networks. By combining both ports using Port Trunking, you increase throughput for demanding applications and gain a backup connection in case one line fails. The network interface meets the requirements for fast backup and virtualisation.
SSD caching and acceleration
Two built-in M.2 PCIe Gen 3 × 4 slots are used to install fast NVMe SSDs, which function as a cache. This configuration speeds up access to frequently used files and reduces the latency of the entire system without occupying the main hard drive bays. The slots also support an Edge TPU accelerator for image recognition.
PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots
Two PCIe Gen 3 × 4 slots offer the option to install add-on cards to increase storage performance. The slots can be fitted with fast network cards up to 25GbE, QM2 expansion cards, or adapters for connecting external storage enclosures. Installing fibre-optic cards creates an affordable Fibre Channel environment for integration into existing SAN networks.
Secure system
The QuTS hero operating system, with its ZFS file system support, focuses on data integrity and protection against corruption. Block-level snapshots record the state of the storage over time and help restore data after a ransomware attack or accidental deletion. The system supports direct launching of virtual machines and containers and includes integrated tools for threat detection.
