Holland Lark M2S Ultimate Combo Wireless Microphone

The Hollyland Lark M2S microphone works as a wireless lavalier system for capturing the spoken word. This condenser electret device uses an omnidirectional pickup pattern, which captures sound evenly from all directions. The receiver offers flexible connection options via USB-C, Lightning and a 3.5mm jack. The 2.4GHz wireless transmission technology transmits the signal over a long distance without unwanted dropouts. The design with an integrated clip is used for secure attachment to clothing in seconds.

Sound Pickup and Directional Characteristic

The condenser electret system captures sound evenly from all directions thanks to its omnidirectional pickup pattern. The frequency range of 20 to 20,000 Hz faithfully transmits the entire spectrum of the human voice. The 48kHz, 24-bit converter records subtle sound details without distortion, even at higher volumes. The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 70dB, which minimises unwanted background noise.

Environmental Noise Cancellation and Wind Protection

The system uses advanced Environmental Noise Cancellation technology to eliminate unwanted ambient noise. Users can set two levels of attenuation directly in the LarkSound mobile app. The included furry windshield effectively muffles air gusts when recording in open spaces. This mechanical protection helps to maintain voice clarity even during adverse weather.

Hollyland Lark M2S Microphone Connections and Outputs

The receiver offers a wide range of connectors for connecting to various types of recording devices. A USB-C interface, Lightning and a classic analogue 3.5mm jack are available. The receiver's design supports simultaneous output to two separate devices using the appropriate cables. This system simplifies connection without the need for additional external splitters.

Wireless Transmission and Range

The wireless technology operates in the 2.4GHz band with adaptive frequency hopping for a stable connection. Digital signal transmission is carried out using GFSK modulation at a speed of 2Mbps. In an open space without obstacles, the system transmits sound up to 300m with minimal delay. In a built-up environment with obstacles, the range is around 40 to 60m.

Power, Battery and Charging

The transmitter contains an integrated 85mAh battery, which is sufficient for 9 hours of operation. The supplied charging case with a capacity of 1,300mAh can charge all parts of the system more than twice. The total operating time with the use of the case is extended to up to 30 hours without the need for a mains connection. A full charge of the transmitter in the case takes approximately 1 hour.

Hollyland Lark M2S Microphone Controls and App

Users control the basic functions directly on the body of the transmitter and receiver. A quick mute button is available and controls for adjusting sensitivity. The LarkSound mobile app provides a clear display of battery status and current volume level. Connecting to the app also facilitates updating the firmware of the entire system.

Attachment, Design and Operating Conditions

The transmitter, weighing only 7g and measuring 13×6.3mm, does not weigh down the user's clothing. The design uses a titanium clip for a firm attachment to a collar or the edge of clothing. The magnetic system offers an alternative method of quick attachment without damaging the fabric. The compact dimensions help keep the microphone out of the main camera shot. The entire system shows high resistance to external influences when working in the field. Reliable operation is guaranteed in a temperature range of -10°C to 45°C. The charging process itself requires an ambient temperature in the range of 0°C to 45°C. The compact charging case, weighing 110g, facilitates safe transport in a pocket or backpack.

Microphone principle

A dynamic microphone is suitable for open-air performances, live broadcasts, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It must be powered separately.

Frequency range

The frequency range indicates the range of frequency values that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can capture.
Low frequencies (e.g., 20–200Hz): Bass, the deepest notes of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid-range frequencies (e.g., 200–3,000Hz): The body of instruments, the foundation of the voice, where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech intelligibility.
High frequencies (e.g., 3,000–14,000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
Air band (above 14,000Hz): Gives recordings a sense of expensive, super-high-quality sound and space.

Sensitivity

Microphone sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to acoustic pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given sound pressure; higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments as it is less likely to unnecessarily amplify ambient noise.
