Safety class S2

Security class S2 is a certification for safes, typically cabinet and furniture safes, which indicates their resistance to burglary. The class is defined by the European standard CSN EN 14450 and is verified by an independent accredited testing laboratory. The testing determines how long the safe can withstand attempts at partial or complete penetration using defined tools. The result is a value of resistance units, referred to as 'RU' (Resistance Unit), with a minimum value of 20/30 RU for class S2. Insurance companies often require this certification for the safekeeping of cash and valuables up to an indicative amount of 80,000 CZK. By law, this class is also suitable for the storage of firearms and ammunition. This is a higher security level than class S1, but lower than the classes defined by EN 1143-1. Each certified safe must be labelled on the inside of the door to confirm its security class.
