Edge LED - diodes are placed only at the side of the screen. TVs with this technology can be thinner than Direct LED TVs. Cheaper models may exhibit uneven backlighting.

Direct LED - diodes are placed evenly over the entire surface of the screen. This means the image is more evenly backlit, with greater contrast.
