The burnt sensor cancelled, but no - the fuse spring in the socket kept heating up, losing its elasticity, and thus further deteriorating the contact and increasing the heating of the socket. So bottom line: Throw away the winding, throw away the sensors, throw away the socket - connect directly to the battery.
