Optical construction
The optical design consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, incorporating aspherical elements alongside LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) glass. These aspherical lenses correct spherical aberrations and distortion in zoom lenses. Low-dispersion optical elements suppress chromatic aberrations across the entire frame, preventing colour fringing on high-contrast edges. A nine-blade circular diaphragm creates a natural and soft background blur when shooting wide open, remaining almost perfectly circular up to two stops down from the maximum aperture.
VC stabilisation system
The lens features built-in Vibration Compensation (VC) image stabilisation to counteract camera shake during handheld shooting. This system compensates for unwanted movement, helping you capture sharp images at slower shutter speeds with up to 5 stops of compensation. When shooting video, the stabiliser uses advanced AI-powered algorithms to deliver smooth, shake-free footage. This system makes it much easier to shoot at slower shutter speeds in low light, dark interiors, or when shooting handheld without a tripod.
Fast autofocus
The autofocus system is driven by an RXD stepping motor, delivering high speed and precision. This motor operates with precise rotational angle control without a reduction gear, utilising a sensor that detects the exact position of the lens. The near-silent operation of the motor eliminates distracting noise during video recording and when tracking moving subjects. An Internal Focusing (IF) system prevents the barrel from extending or rotating during focusing, making it easy to use circular polarising or graduated filters.
Close-up shooting
Enjoy a close focusing distance of just 19cm at the wide end and 39cm at the telephoto end. The lens offers a magnification ratio of 1:4.8 at the wide end, and 1:5.2 at the telephoto end. These parameters let you capture stunning close-up shots with beautifully blurred backgrounds. The versatile focal range covers a variety of photographic genres, from landscapes and architecture to reportage, action, street photography, and portraits.
