The Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD lens for Sony FE (model A068) covers a versatile range of focal lengths from ultra-wide to standard without the need for a lens change. A single compact lens allows a rich variety of shooting from dynamic landscapes to casual shots and portraits in the standard range. Excellent close-up performance is provided by the MOD 19 cm at the wide end and 30 cm at the long end of the lens. Moreover, the constant F/4 aperture throughout the range makes it ideal not only for photography but also for shooting video. The lens is designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras and cannot be used with DSLRs.

The optical construction of the 17-50mm F/4 consists of 15 elements in 13 groups. Distinguishing the entire frame with clarity and sharpness, and taking full advantage of the rich bokeh thanks to the wide-open F/4 aperture will bring you closer to the perfect shot. The lens weighs just 460g and has a compact 114.4mm length, a size that is well balanced even when mounted on a Sony mirrorless body. The lens has a fixed length barrel and internal zoom mechanism, making it easy to hold the shot when taking still images and video footage, and easy to balance with a video or gimbal stabilizer.

Durable and customisable mirrorless lens

The Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD lens for Sony FE features a moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating on the front and rear lens elements to ensure durability in natural environments. The filter size is 67mm, the same as most other TAMRON mirrorless lenses, providing greater convenience when using multiple lenses. The lens is also equipped with ergonomic features that promote comfortable shooting. The connector port for the TAMRON Lens Utility allows you to upgrade the firmware and customize the lens to your individual needs.

Auto Focus

VXD autofocus is a world premiere: It is the first linear focusing motor developed by Tamron for superior autofocusing. Two VXD modules, which operate in a floating system and are controlled by electronic pulses, provide fast and accurate focusing on near and distant objects. The new motor also ensures improved AF tracking, for example when shooting sports. The autofocus works so quietly that you can shoot even in situations that require complete peace and quiet.

Protection against splashing water

Tamron lenses have a weatherproof lens hood that optimally protects the sensitive interior from wind and weather. The robust outer shell is effectively sealed against moisture ingress at all critical points (e.g. between the focusing ring and the bayonet connection). This ensures reliable operation even in the harshest outdoor shooting conditions.

Advanced protection and image quality enhancement

The BBAR coating prevents reflection and scattering of light falling on the lens surface. Avoid loss of brightness and contrast and prevent "ghosting". The BBAR coating also contributes to the natural colour rendering. Since 2019, the advanced BBAR G2 coating has been used. The fluoride coating permanently protects the front lens from contamination. Oil and water droplets do not stick to the surface, which is therefore very easy to clean.

Tamron Lens Utility

The new "TAMRON Lens Utility" software has been developed specifically for the configuration of compatible lenses. The TAMRON Lens Utility can be controlled via a computer by connecting the lens from its connector port via the TAMRON USB-C cable. Users can customize features and update firmware through the lens. With individual settings, the lens can be optimally adapted to the shooting situation, such as photography or video recording.
