I bought the tablet during the AlzaDays sale for around 7,000 CZK, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting any miracles for that price. I mainly saw it as a practical, larger screen for working on bigger projects – for notes, scripts, admin overviews and the like, where I wouldn’t mind too much if the device got a bit of a rough ride during use. In the end, though, it pleasantly surprised me. The tablet is fast, easy to use and certainly capable of more than just taking basic notes or reading documents. The display is pleasant, the system responds quickly, and overall the device performs very well for the price. It is, of course, an Android tablet, with all the pros and cons that entails. What’s particularly disappointing is that the SIM-free version isn’t generally available here. The software is typically ‘Xiaomi-style’, which means it might not be to everyone’s taste – there are more pre-installed apps and the interface feels a little less streamlined than that of some of its competitors. What’s more, Xiaomi clearly draws inspiration from the iPad in some respects, though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing in practice. In terms of hardware, it’s a very impressive device for the price.
My only major reservation concerns the software and trust in the ecosystem. It is still a tablet from a Chinese manufacturer, so if you’re concerned about privacy, corporate data or simply don’t want to entrust everything to such an ecosystem, you should bear this in mind when buying it. It’s great for everyday use, but I’d be more careful with really sensitive stuff.
