Speed OK
It heats, but a lot. >10 degrees compared to the Seagate in the adjacent slots - therefore it burns and for that star down
Loud enough

I've been using WD Red Pro drives on a very busy NAS for a number of years and have been completely satisfied. I have them in RAID 5, but so far I have not had to replace a disk due to failure.

A robust, high-performance HDD.
Rating, stamina is top tier.
Unfortunately I had to return it because after plugging it in the NAS server turned into a rocket drive - extreme hum even without writing, extremely loud writing, server temperature 5-10C higher and vibrations.
The final choice is the WD Red Plus, which although rated lower, are not audible even when writing and their temperature is significantly lower.

I don't recommend having it sent to an alza box either, it goes in an antistatic bag without any security.
I picked up with personal collection at the central warehouse and the discs were perfectly fine (after previous experience with shipping I didn't risk it anymore)
Quite quiet operation
Fits great in my NAS

I'm still testing, but definitely faster and quieter than Purple. transfer the same files to Purple for hours and to Red for minutes. I don't know if Purple was defective or such a feature, but never again. The advice from the Alza technician on the Purple's noise level must have been from a faux blonde "the drives are noisy and the SSDs are not" so I returned the PURPLE 24Tb and bought a RED.

I hope that the drives will still be as reliable as ever, I'm just sorry that WD started to add firmware that is not compatible with the previous version S. M. A. R. T. I hope there's not some hidden villain in there.

The 8TB WD Red Pro, which I have had for a couple of years now, is problem-free
classic CMR notation
Unfortunately, the new 8TB Red Pro WD80005FFBX series got a new S. M. A. R. Firmware that my decade-old NAS no longer understands. It is not possible to perform a preventive check of the state of the S disk. M. A. R. T.

I ordered, upon delivery it had a cut or puncture in the anti-static packaging. The BIOS only detects the model, but does not learn more about it. In Linux, the kernel reports IDENTIFY_FAILED which is either a communication error (cable) or a HW failure. Since I connected another WD RED 8TB to the same cable and it worked without any problems, the fault would be in the HW - possibly a blocked platter after a crash. I put in a claim with Alza, and instead of settling the claim it was rejected, with the proviso that I should pass it on to an authorised repairer. Subsequently, the order was cancelled and the disc returned to Alza. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes on sale again..: -( The packaging is lousy, only in bubble wrap, and it's possible that it fell out of the carrier during shipping. As the disc is not a tea box, they should package and handle it much better. Based on the discussion, it's not a coincidence.
I don't know.
It's not working.
