I guess it could be done if you have headphones. It's probably not a frame for 24/7 use, as the fan will soon wear out and start making noise. I could probably do without it, because the disk doesn't get too hot in conjunction with the Mac MINI, even when running a 24/7 database and other applications.
Funguey. You pop in a disk and it's good to go.

It's a good extension of the Mac MINI
After about a month of operation, it started making noise. The fan must have moved on its axis and started to jam somewhere. The noise is quite unbearable. I'm going to go ahead and claim it and go with something with passive cooling.
Purchased for the possibility of video editing, parameters and performance great. Unfortunately the noise level of the fan is really higher, returned the product because of this and purchased another one with the ability to turn off and on the internal fan as needed. So if you don't mind the higher noise level I definitely recommend it.
I was buying a Mac mini M4. It achieves high speeds, but I have an external 2 TB NVMe drive from which I can transfer to the internal drive about 30-40 GB (e.g. of 70) at full speed and then it drops to an average of a quarter. On the contrary, it's keeping full speed. So I measured the transfer time of a 10 Gbps and this 40 Gbps box and the time difference is absolutely negligible, both for a small and a large file. So I returned it. And I certainly don't recommend it to those who like peace and quiet. He's pretty noisy.
In combination with the M4 Mac Mini, it stably reaches (even after uploading/installing 300GB of data in a few hours and considerable warm-up) 3100MB/s, which is faster than the internal SSD in the aforementioned Mac (according to BM Disk Speed Test)
The fan is a bit louder, but I think that's an acceptable trade-off for high and stable transfer speeds
