I upgraded from the Fold 7 and, honestly, I didn't expect the jump between generations to be this noticeable. The biggest surprise is the battery life; the real-world endurance is significantly better than the 7. I don't know if it's the new battery technology or the efficiency of the new CPU, but the phone handles a demanding day with plenty of power to spare. On top of that, it finally has properly fast charging (a real 45W), which was a long-standing shortcoming of previous Folds.
The crease on the main display is practically invisible. Even compared to the Fold 7, which was already good in this respect, it's a noticeable improvement. The main display also has a higher resolution and is visibly brighter.
In terms of design, the phone is even a bit thinner than the Fold 7, which I thought was almost impossible, but they managed it. The camera received a much-needed upgrade, especially the new 50Mpx ultra-wide sensor, and the 200Mpx main camera is also significantly better. The Fold 8 is the first to get One UI 9 with Android 17, and it works perfectly.
The only bitter pill to swallow with the Fold is the price – the year-on-year price increase (partly due to the situation in the memory market) is significant, and for a phone in this class, the lack of a charger in the box is also disappointing.
