Verified purchase - review from a price comparison website
This is a solidly made product.
When I unboxed it and held it in my hand for the first time, I was so impressed with the good quality and workmanship.
For the price, it's a good buy.
The stainless steel sheet is about 1.5 mm thick and the product has good rigidity. The hole design is free of burrs.
The problem is that most people buy this garlic press because the promotional video shows the ease of pressing and ease of cleaning. That was my reason for buying this type of press.
After the first use I was slightly disappointed, because the garlic pressing does not happen easily and after the garlic is pressed and shaken off the sheet, the garlic residue remains in the holes, similarly to a regular lever press. Thus, the benefits in the promotional video are either misleading or there are other varieties of garlic in Asia that are much easier to press.
Pressing the garlic can be made easier with a small improver.
It is good to cut the garlic into rounds about 5mm thick and then stack them side by side on a mat and then press them through.
This presses the garlic perpendicular to the fibres and the garlic has a better chance of passing through the holes, thus reducing the force required for pressing.
The base on which the pressing is done should probably be made of hard material (beech wood, good quality plastic).
Thanks to this improvement I consider the press to be functional and usable.
Good build quality
Compared to the promotional video, pressing garlic requires relatively more force, which is not entirely suitable for older people (if someone would like to buy it for their parents as a gift)
I've used it about 2 times and then I've been grateful for an old working press and this non-functioning cradle is resting in a drawer for me.
There is still the possibility to put the product away and use an old garlic press. Not every innovation succeeds.
It takes a lot of strength. The holes are not sharp, so it is necessary to brutally push through.
It is necessary to solve on what surface to perform and the material is processed over a large area. The plate felt like it was going to burst under the pressure.
