So, the first time I used the cutter, I realised that when I put the paper up against the vertical guide, the cut isn't at a perfect right angle, and the guide can't be moved because it's firmly fixed to the bottom metal part. You can see in the attached photo how the line disappears under the guide.
The vertical guide was bent from the factory.
