After 8 years, I have been looking for a replacement for the Kindle PaperWhite 3 with the understanding that Amazon never will. The requirements were seemingly unpretentious - a custom OS, a display larger than 6", a warm backlight and fast response. Of the black-and-white ones, only the PocketBook InkPad 4 and Kobo Sage - both quite expensive - finally fulfilled this. So I searched in colour too, quite pessimistic, but to no avail. Text legibility is the same as on the old PaperWhite 3 from 2017. Maybe the current black and white readers are better, I can't compare, but I was incredibly pleasantly surprised. The larger display is noticeable, I won't go back to 6". Even the text without pictures is more pleasant, not to mention the pictures, even if only illustrative. Thanks to the diagonal and a decent resolution, even comics can be read (tried The Witcher and Walking Dead, previously on 6" it was necessary to zoom in, thus unreadable). For magazines it would need an even larger diagonal (8" maybe? ), but what has clear graphics is also possible. What surprised me even more is the speed - everything responds immediately (within e-ink technology), there is no waiting for anything, redrawing is very fast. On the Paperwhite each click was 1-2 seconds, here it's fractions. The only thing that bothers me is having to find a way to run the reader offline. Without connecting to wifi and registering with Kobo, it won't even start. But just connect it to the PC after selecting the language and in the \ directory. kobo\Kobo\ edit in the eReader file. conf SideloadedMode=false to true. The reader turns on without the Kobo store and can be used fully offline. However, this option should be available by default without the need to force it through configuration files.

I was picking out a new reader for a few years old PocketBook. I wanted 7", the ability to hold from the side, and physical buttons to scroll through pages. It does. This reader does the trick and I' ve been in awe of it for quite some time now. I' ve never had a better one. What I rate really positively is the philosophy of the manufacturer, who declares that spare parts can be purchased and their electronics are repairable. I also found a few flies, but from now on I will only be loyal to this brand. Plus, of course, you can also use the scissors for notes, in sheets, to write a diary in it. just be careful, it doesn' t work without a stylus (and you have to buy it).

After much thought and comparison between the Kobo Libra 2 and the Kindle Paperwhite, I finally decided on the Kobo Libra Color. The main reason was the fact that the Amazon interface was not native to me and, moreover, the price difference was not that striking. So I decided to invest in a color version that offers a much richer reading experience. The reader is incredibly fast, it responds promptly to all commands. In terms of settings, it is maximally compatible, I even found out that it is possible to install various improvements from the Internet and " jailbreak" it without major problems. This system is really customized to adapt to the user' s needs, which is a big advantage. It supports all formats, but I personally prefer the KEPUB format, which is native to the Kobo interface. I move already purchased books to the reader using the drive, no cables are needed, the process is fast. The design of the reader is absolutely beautiful. It fits beautifully in the hand, the buttons are pressed naturally and simply. It offers a lot of settings to customize the reading of the book, which is very important for me personally, as I like to change the font size, font type and backlight according to the current conditions. It has the ability to adjust both the intensity and the warm or cold backlight - great for nighttime or, conversely, in the sun. One of the disadvantages I noticed is that the color display is darker compared to black and white. However, this is a small price to pay for the gorgeous colors that provide a much richer visual experience. Another thing I have to mention is the price of Kobo' s stylus. It' s quite expensive, so I started looking for cheaper styluses that could work just as well. I can' t judge note-taking and annotation yet, as I don' t have a pen. As for battery life, I' m still waiting for a definitive evaluation. So far, however, it seems positive and I hope it will not disappoint me. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and definitely recommend it to people who want more than a simple reading experience. Kobo Libra Color brings added value that enriches reading and makes it much more enjoyable and fun.
