I have thoroughly tested the box, and for an average streaming service user, it's probably the fastest box I've had. For use with Kodi/Plex, although I managed to get audio passthrough working for basically all formats including DTS-HD and TrueHD, the audio-to-video sync is very poor. The audio is ahead by 1–1.5s and has to be manually synced in Kodi. Once synced, it works fine, including fast forwarding, but as soon as I switch to a different audio stream or change subtitles, the player breaks completely again and the sound usually doesn't even kick in. I have to close the player and restart it, then the audio, including passthrough, works correctly again, but I have to manually resync it. I have an old Nvidia Shield here that I wanted to replace, but on the Shield, the aforementioned audio/sync issues do not exist. Switching audio streams is much faster on the Shield. It's a shame because this Homatics box is overall faster in everything else and the picture seems to have sharper colours, so hopefully a future model will resolve the audio issues. I'm returning the box.

Works quickly and reliably for playing streams
High-quality picture and sound (smooth picture)
Easy to control (using the remote control)
A big disappointment was that it doesn't read an external SSD on either of the USB ports.
Limited connectivity options

The box runs like clockwork without the slightest hesitation. It works with my older Samsung TV via HDMI-CEC as expected. The bootloader can be unlocked in the developer menu; I haven't tried Su root yet but Shizuku works perfectly, you just need to install a version compatible with Google TV. Totalcmd and other apps work well. Projectivy Launcher and tvQuickActions Pro are a must-have. All the streaming platforms work a treat. It has DRM support. What's not so great is that it's only a 32-bit operating system 🫤. In this day and age, that's a step backwards and you have to search for APKs for armeabi-v7a, which is very limiting. I don't expect the manufacturer will ever switch the OS to arm64-v8a, even though the CPU supports it natively.

The device is a successful update to the previous model. The manufacturer has added features like AI SR, which improves the picture similarly to the Shield, and has definitely worked on the picture quality, as it is richer with higher contrast. I have all three new models at home and this one is clearly the fastest, which is to be expected given the processor and 4GB of RAM. The responsiveness is perfect and there are no stutters etc. here. I recommend using an alternative launcher, which allows for more settings (e.g. AI SR). At a time when the Shield is more expensive and less available, this is an almost adequate replacement.

I set it up today and it's an absolutely brilliant device, unbelievably fast in both operation and loading. Simple setup. Compared to this, my three-year-old LG TV is an old snail.
