Even older media spins up at full speed, so reading is fast (faster than my older drive from 2010). It's great that the cable is detachable. Unfortunately, the connector is only a mini-usb, which is practically not used anymore. But that's just a small thing. My bigger warning is the quality of workmanship, where the ejector rails are not metal, but plastic. The whole drawer looks very "forum-like" when it is pulled out.
Reading even 15-year-old discs runs briskly
The mechanical processing of the drawer is not the best. The rails are plastic.

a good replacement for mechanics instead of a laptop
the whole device feels quite cheap and when I use it I feel like it will break if I move it awkwardly
although the connection is via USB-A, the drive itself is connected via a USB-A and USB-A mini cable. A USB-C connector would be far better these days
