According to the manual, the silent mode setting (beeping when running on battery) did not work (holding the button for more than 11s, etc. )
The solution was to connect the UPS to the PC instead of the NAS and set the PC to silent mode in the manufacturer's downloadable app. Then I connected the UPS back to the NAS and the silent mode is still set. So problem solved.
