It's a must for the cleaning station, but the machine cleans it, lubricates it, and it still smells. So if it extends the life of the blade, that's fine.
The pack lasts me a long time, I change one cartridge after about three months, cleaning it once a week (I also use Braun spray to clean the shaving heads sometimes - after cleaning, you need to drip a little oil on each shaving bar. Do not use oil when using the cleaning station, the cleaning station will take care of everything by itself): -)
