The strap is not ideal but what can you do? Any fastenings will obstruct something because it's essentially a universal adapter from a standard (VESA mount) to a huge variety of possible configurations none of which was meant to be mounted anywhere.
Simple and sturdy.
The laptop can safely sit almost vertically.
The strap overlaps the power button on some laptops (e.g. T480) but you can mostly work around that.

I use it with the CBS OLLIN arm. The pad works well, I especially appreciate the cooling holes and the simple design, which is therefore compatible with many arms. Unlike other washers, this one holds with all four screws, which is important if the arm has a VESA adapter made of plastic (like OLLIN). In this case, two screws are not enough and would risk breaking the VESA adapter. The only drawback is the short Velcro strip for attaching the laptop. I have a classic 15 inch laptop and the belt just isn't enough. I have to buy a separate cable organizer.
