I've been using this software for backups - in different versions according to the current releases - for a really long time, maybe around 15 years. True, it's not exactly freeware, so it costs a penny, but I'm deeply convinced that it does a great job for the money. In addition to what one would expect from backup software, it can also clone partitions, including system disks. There is also a small portion of the cloud available at no additional charge, and more space for money, which I personally don't use (I back up to another drive - either on the same computer or a network drive). I like that the backup behaves like a regular archive, so I can tap to open it, view it, run what I need, extract it.
