Intel Socket

Intel processors are installed into a specific connector on the motherboard called a "socket." These sockets evolve and change over time, which means that their physical dimensions and the layout of the mounting holes for attaching the cooler vary. This mounting kit is a set of parts, such as brackets, screws, and potentially a backplate, used to securely attach the CPU cooler to a motherboard with a specific type of Intel socket. Essentially, it is an adapter that ensures mechanical compatibility between the cooler and the motherboard. It allows, for example, the use of an older cooler model on a new motherboard with a more modern socket for which it was not originally designed, or in the event that the original mounting parts have been lost.
