HSS (High-Speed Sync) is not a stand-alone exposure control system, but rather an additional feature used with other TTL systems. It allows the flash to be used at higher shutter speeds than the standard sync speed. HSS is useful when shooting in bright lighting conditions or when you need to freeze fast motion.
