The ROG MAXIMUS Z890 EXTREME motherboard, in E-ATX format with an Intel Z890 chipset, supports Intel Core Ultra processors for the Intel 1851 socket and is ready for advanced AI PC builds. The board features two PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlots with PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim and supports modern graphics cards. It supports DDR5 memory with overclocking up to 8600MT/s in four dual-channel DIMM slots, with a maximum capacity of 192GB and features NitroPath DRAM Technology, DIMM Fit, DIMM Flex and AEMP III. The board includes six integrated M.2 slots, two of which support PCIe 5.0 x4 and four support PCIe 4.0 x4, all with the ROG M.2 PowerBoost feature. DIMM Fit is a BIOS feature that precisely analyses individual memory modules to optimise performance and identify potential issues.

The motherboard uses a 24+2+1+2 power solution rated at 110A per phase, with ProCool II power connectors, MicroFine alloy chokes, and metallic capacitors. AI Overclocking profiles the CPU and cooling to predict the optimal configuration. The NPU Boost feature overclocks the NPU with a single click, increasing performance by up to 24%. AI Cooling II balances the thermal and acoustic properties of PC builds. AI Networking II combines technologies that optimise network performance, provide a reliable connection, and unlock the speed of WiFi 7. NitroPath DRAM technology enables frequencies up to 400MT/s higher, and the slot's durability has increased by 57%.
Advanced cooling and overclocking
The board features heatsinks integrated with the I/O panel, connected by an L-shaped heatpipe and linked to the power stages via highly conductive thermal pads. The board is equipped with a differential sensing circuit and a fine-tuned integrated circuit that simplifies overclocking and tuning, allowing for more precise voltage monitoring. WiFi 7 offers a 320MHz-wide 6GHz band and 4096 QAM with the ASUS WiFi Q-Antenna. The ROG SupremeFX ALC4082 codec with an ESS ES9219 Quad DAC ensures playback at up to 32-bit/384kHz.
Personalisation
The BIOS Q-Dashboard simplifies motherboard configuration by providing a visual display of hardware connections and corresponding BIOS settings. M.2 Q-Release, M.2 Q-Slide, and M.2 Q-LATCH technologies make installing storage devices easier. The Q-LED and Q-CODE diagnostic displays help with troubleshooting potential problems. A Start button, FlexKey button, BIOS FlashBack button, and Clear CMOS button simplify operation. The full-colour 5-inch LCD can display ROG animations, system information, and personalised services via Armoury Crate.
